Public school students will be banned from using mobile phones during school hours as of next year.

Under the new policy students won’t be allowed to use phones, smart watches, ear buds or tables from the moment they arrive on school grounds.

Exemptions will be made for students with special circumstances.

Education Minister Sue Ellery told Gareth Parker the ban is designed to increase attention and interactions for students while they’re at school.
