WA ‘not immune’ from defect issues plaguing apartments in the east

The Department of Building and Energy doesn’t believe residents at a South Perth apartment complex – should be overly alarmed – despite apparent issues with glass panels.

At least one panel is known to have fallen from the tower last month – the local council has issued building orders to relevant parties – which are being challenged in the State Administrative Tribunal.

The Department’s Director of Building Compliance Sandy Randall concedes any building owner is likely to be concerned about the possibility of defects.

She did admit though that it wasn’t possible to rule out WA facing the same sorts of issues apartment owners in NSW and Victoria are facing with regard to defects.
