Final funding and approval have been granted for the latest initiative to halt the cane toad invasion across northern Western Australia.

Press PLAY to hear Judy Dunlop explain how modified water troughs can stop cane toads in their tracks

Curtin University ecologist Judy Dunlop spoke with 6PR Drive host Jamie Burnett, explaining that the toads are 107 kilometres east of Broome, and the straightforward strategy aims to effectively starve them of water.

“The only available water is cattle dams, so if we change those dams that are accessible at ground level over to tanks and troughs that they can’t get into, then we will prevent them spreading further south”, Dunlop said.
