The SLSWA State Endurance Championships have been officially cancelled following the recent beached whale incident.

City of Perth SLSC president Eoghan McKenna told 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that the whale has placed an additional burden on the club.

Given the endurance format, McKenna noted the added difficulty.

“It’s not the traditional-style surf carnival that a lot of people would be familiar with. They’re, as the name would suggest, endurance, so it’s a lot longer format. People are in the water for a lot longer, so it’s a lot harder to manage from an ocean surveillance water safety perspective,” McKenna said.
