His mother, Kelly Woodall told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont that the rescue happened in a no-swimming zone without lifesavers on duty.

A Nipper since age six, Aidan was hesitant to be called a hero, but he insisted that his mother highlight the importance of the Nippers program, prompting her to urge the public to be ocean-aware.

“When you learn those skills you also become someone who’s confident in the water, and you’re confident to be able to recognise that you can help, whereas if it’s not something that’s ingrained in, you feel a little bit helpless in that situation”, Woodall said.
