After months of unsuccessful discussions, approximately 200 Pilbara-based BHP workers are walking off the job today, a move set to cost the mining giant up to $50 million.

Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union state secretary Steve McCartney told 6PR Breakfast hosts Karl and Mick that BHP workers haven’t been able to negotiate their own agreements for over a decade.

“They really want to get a real working wage and conditions, and they want to be recognised for their skill sets, and they want to be treated with some equity”, he said.
