The state train drivers’ union has labelled a Nationals’ draft bill mandating more lights on trains ‘fundamentally flawed,’ citing a lack of consultation with the rail industry.

Press PLAY to hear about the criticism of the proposed level crossing safety bill

Australian Rail, Tram and Bus Industry Union branch secretary Joshua Dekuyer told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont that while rail workers have been advocating for improved level crossing safety for over a decade, the changes proposed in the bill have not been proven to improve safety.

“It’s concerning that people are linking us, questioning and challenging sections of the bill as though we’re somehow against level crossing safety,” he said.
