Calls for cadet-style discipline in schools to combat ‘weak and waffly’ education policies
A national think tank is pushing to integrate Defence Force cadet-style principles – discipline, respect, and character – into Australia’s education system.
Warren Bishop, from the Page Research Centre, told 6PR Drive host Jamie Burnett that he believes current education goals and policies are weak and make it almost impossible to teach children why national values are so precious.
“We’re seeing a culture of avoidance, too many students not willing to do anything that’s hard, where they might fail. Loss of respect for others, no sense of belonging, unacceptable behaviour in the classrooms, selfishness – it’s a growing concern,” he said.
