Reports the state government wants to use the vacant federally owned quarantine facility near Bullsbrook as a low-risk prison.

However, the plan has been labeled unworkable by the Prison Officers Union.

Andy Smith from the Western Australian Prison Officers Union explained to 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that the site would require substantial funds to be made suitable, but acknowledged the urgency of the situation, stating that the prison system is in dire straits.

“The prison system itself is in a terrible state, we’ve got no beds, we’ve got no staff and we need something in a hurry,” he said.
