Historic bones found on Rottnest have been confirmed as the remains of an Indigenous person.

Press PLAY to hear Leon Ruri discuss the discovery

Leon Ruri, CEO of the Whadjuk Aboriginal Corporation, told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont he was surprised the remains were found in that particular location.

He said authorities are now working to identify the remains, which will help shed light on the area’s significant, dark history.

“Given today’s technology that’s available to us, this could be an opportunity to really find some truth, and maybe for whoever it is that may lay in state there the possibility of even returning home,” he said.
