Victoria Park residents are shocked after a toilet block at Elizabeth Baillie Park was vandalised less than 24 hours after opening.

Mayor Karen Vernon told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont that community speculation suggests the facility was targeted by people opposed to the Elizabeth Baillie Park project.

“I’d hate to think that this was someone who had those motivations or indeed that it was someone from our community,” she said.

Vernon also brought attention to the symbolic Blue Tree that has been unceremoniously chopped down in the Burswood construction site.

“That was really disappointing because that’s the type of tree that could have been dug out and resited somewhere else,” she said.

The government has reportedly confirmed the tree will be replaced.
