A foul smell in Kwinana, reportedly stemming from the new Kwinana Energy Recovery Facility, has prompted complaints from locals.

Click PLAY to hear about the concerns.

Jane Bremmer chair of Toxics Free Australia told Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that there is currently no proof the waste recovery processing plant is less polluting than fossil fuels, expressing concern that the government is ignoring key warnings.

“We’re a bit in the dark still about this incinerator project, we don’t know what the omissions are, we don’t know if they’re meeting their claims,” she said.

Simon then spoke with Chris Oughton, Former CEO of the Kwinana Industries Council, who provided context by noting that the facility has not yet been fully commissioned.

“It will I’m sure be reporting its data to the regulator as it’s required to and making adjustments as it goes along,” he said.
