Local councils advocate; volunteers require greater support before summer hits
Summer is predicted to hit hard, and councils in the peri-urban areas of Perth are relying on hundreds of volunteers to keep their community safe from bushfires.

Rob Coales, President of the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale, explains to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that despite the state investing millions of dollars in a new fire station, more still needs to be done to support volunteers.
“The most important thing is that we keep our community safe and we’re always trying to advocate for more facilities or better facilities and for more equipment for our wonderful volunteers,” he said.
