Professor Kingsley Dixon, a world-leading botanist, has been named the 2026 Senior Australian of the Year for Western Australia.

Having transformed Australian native plant conservation, Professor Dixon explained to 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that his love for WA’s nature began while growing up in Morley.

He was inspired after witnessing the area’s natural environment disappear due to development.

“I just do what I do, because I love what I do and I love Western Australia and I love what we have in nature so I guess it’s always a bit of a surprise that others think that’s deserving,” he said.
