Bird lovers are raising the alarm about the harm fake spider webs pose to baby birds as Halloween approaches.

Sean Dooley, Public Relations Advisor for BirdLife Australia, explained to 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that Halloween coincides with nesting season.

He noted an increasing number of reports of the webs causing issues for young birds, stating,

“The birds use this stuff to line their nests, they think ‘oh this looks nice and soft you beauty, but it actually doesn’t break down and the fibres get caught around the baby birds legs and they’ll end up falling out and that’s not the kind of Halloween scene we actually want to see.”
