City of Stirling mayor Mark Irwin has hit back at Osborne Park Football Club President Jeremy LaBianca over public comments made yesterday in regards to the ongoing costume scandal.

Mr Irwin has defended the council’s actions and claimed members of the club had shared photos depicting what was on a laptop used as a part of a player’s costume.

“Those photos are very public now and a lot of people would have seen them … you would need to go to Specsavers if you can’t say that it depicted child pornography,” he told Simon Beaumont on 6PR Perth Today.

He also says the council was protecting its asset from the club.

“Our role isn’t to determine whether they’ll play football in the future, or any of those other things that get conflated into this,” he added.
