The Nationals leader has warned of dire animal welfare consequences resulting from the government’s decision to ban live exports.

He stated to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that the policy, for which he says there is no scientific or economic basis, will shift the market to other nations.

“You’re going to see the perverse death of millions of sheep from countries like Sudan, Ethiopia, and South Africa that will take this market up that we’ve cut an run from because Western Australia has the best animal welfare standards in the world and they don’t,” he said.
