The price of black market cigarettes has dropped to a record low of just $7.50 per packet, coinciding with the federal government’s implementation of another 5% hike on legal cigarettes.

Theo Foukkare, CEO of the Australian Association of Convenience Stores, told 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that the purchase of black market cigarettes is now openly occurring and that current legislation requires reform.

As he stated, “The federal government are living in a bubble, they keep trying the same old tricks, i.e., put the price up, people will stop smoking, but it’s not working.”
