The City of Canning Mayor, Patrick Hall, is urging Western Australia to follow Tasmania’s lead in banning greyhound racing by 2029, citing animal welfare concerns.

Hall explained to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that the sport is globally in decline and that society has moved beyond such a “dated” form of entertainment.

He stated, “We’ve moved well past the point that we really need to gamble on a pack of dogs running around a track for our source of entertainment, and particularly when so many of those dogs end up maimed, seriously injured or killed.”
