Australia to implement search engine age verification by end of year

By the end of 2025, Australia will implement age verification for search engines such as Google.

Lisa Given, Professor of Information Sciences at RMIT University, informed 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that while companies could face fines of up to $50 million per breach, the specific mechanisms for age identification have not yet been disclosed.
“The types of checks they could do,” she said, “they could ask for government-issued ID, they could do facial scanning to kind of estimate your age, they could look at your previous history.”
