WA universities are defending their fast-track teaching programme, which incorporates real-world experience, against criticism that it produces under-qualified teachers.

Professor Jeff Brooks, Head of Curtin University’s School of Education, told 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that the programme was introduced to tackle the teacher shortage in WA.

“We’re talking about the difference in schools between having a teacher who’s gone through one of these degrees and is on the job versus no teacher at all,” he said.
