WA Energy Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson clarified to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that this decision rests with the private sector, though the government’s primary focus is phasing out coal by 2030.

“The reality is we still need to maintain security and reliability of the system and gas remains the lower carbon enabler and technology that we have available today,” she said.
