Public schools weigh the benefits of longer winter holidays

Calls are mounting to extend public school winter holidays to three weeks.

Melissa Gillett, President of the WA Secondary School Education Association, informed Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that a three-week winter break has demonstrated a reduction in absences for both students and staff.
“We don’t want to cut down the amount of time that we’re teaching kids, it’s not about that; it’s about making sure that the time that we have with them is the best that we can be and they can be,” she said.
