New discovery in gut microbes looks to identify why a high-fibre diet can reduce blood pressure

Melbourne scientists have identified a substance in your gut that can lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart attack, hypertension, and possibly even stroke, according to new findings.

Francine Marques, a professor of Genetics from Monash University, told Perth Live host Russell Collett that the discovery is very exciting as a new trial begins.
“We knew for decades that diets high in fibre lower blood pressure, but we didn’t understand how that happened,” she said.
