Police union criticises police commissioner and state government for failing to prioritise officers’ needs

Simon Beaumont

With the WA Police Union representing almost 95% of the WA police force, the union president has warned that in the lead-up to the state election, none of the political parties are asking what police officers need.

WA Police Union President Dave Flaherty told Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that there is currently not enough protection or training for officers.

“You can go talk to the commissioner, and he’ll tell you what the police force needs as far as structure—probably assets, planes, helicopters, boats—but what do the police officers need?” he said.
