6PR’s Chrissy Morissy discusses whether beaches should ever be privately owned

Chrissy Morrissy

A fenced-off section of Peppermint Grove beach in WA’s South West has prompted 6PR’s Chrissy Morrissy to investigate and discover that, in rare cases, historical leases mean a section of beach can be privately owned.

Chrissy spoke to Jake Broderick, whose family owns land in the area, to find out what the locals know.

“My understanding is that it’s a big farming family that owns most of the land down there. You do get 4-wheel driving happening up and down that beach, and I suppose, being their land, they’ve sort of just put that fence up to prevent it,” he said.
