Sports journalist claims female surfer was discriminated against after speaking out about inequality

Last year, Noosa Malibu Surf Club came under the spotlight after offering what appeared to be more prize money to men than women, which doesn’t align with Surfing Australia’s policy toward equality.

This year, that same club has decided not to allow Lucy Small, a female surfer who was vocal about the discrepancy at the time, to compete.

Sports journalist Kate Allman, who originally broke the story, explained to 6PR’s Chrissy Morrissy that she believes Lucy is being penalised for speaking out.

“The one person that was brave enough to stand up for what everyone is thinking is now being discriminated against,” she said.
