‘We’ll match that’: why Aussie businesses are hassled over haggling

The Long Lunch

JB Hi-Fi’s boss says shoppers are increasingly haggling with his staff when looking to buy TVs or computers and will focus its sales on promoting affordable products to bargain-savvy shoppers.

Terry Smart says it’s part of his business’ ethos to ensure the sale irrespective of original pricing, and that more businesses should support savvy shoppers.

Consumer Behaviour expert Bri Williams told Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons JB Hi Fi is proving connection to customers is still key to business success.

“If they’re complaining about it, it’s a problem the retailers have created for themselves; just look at the JB Hi Fi website and you’ll see all of the price-matching guarantees,” Ms Williams said.
