An evacuation centre has been set up in Toodyay as firefighters battle an out-of-control blaze threatening rural properties east of Perth.

The bushfire was reported around 11am  near Julimar Road in West Toodyay.

6PR and Nine News Reporter Ezra Holt told Jamie Burnett on Perth Live the situation was escalating, especially with the complications of afternoon traffic and strong winds.
