More than half of the pre-mixed products on bottle shop shelves are misleading customers with bogus nutrition claims, health experts claim.

The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health analysed almost 500 pre-mixed alcohol products and found 52 per cent spruiked nutrition claims; 92 per cent of hard seltzers advertised some form of healthy benefit.

George Institute for Global Health Head of Food Policy Simone Pettigrew told Millsy and Karl onĀ 6PR Breakfast claims of energy value, sugar content and “naturalness” were especially prevalent.

“Food ministers are talking about this and trying to decide what to do about it, so this is very timely,” Professor Pettigrew said.
