As the state inquiry into Perth Mint’s dealings begins, apparent revelations shared from committee members under confidence have galvanised rumours around the troubled institution.

WA Greens Senator Dorinda Cox had to eventually walk back a statement in which she detailed apparent evidence of the mint’s connection to international drug cartels, terrorist organisations and Russian oligarchs.

Liberal Senator Dean Smith told Gary Adshead Senator Cox’s comments aren’t confirmed knowledge.

“I think its really important that when we conduct this inquiry, and we have to do it in the spirit of bipartisanship,” Senator Smith said.
