The eye-watering daily cost of the Rinehart royalties spectacle

The “mega-court battle” between Gina Rinehart and the descendants of Peter Wright over the land rights to an iron ore mine in the Pilbara has attracted a galaxy of legal talent – and an equally sensational price tag.

Wright’s family have taken Rinehart to court over the Hope Downs mines, claimed by Lang Hancock and Wright in the 1960s, for millions of dollars allegedly owed to them.

WAtoday‘s Jesinta Burton has been following the case closely, and told Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons the case definitely carries an air of grandiosity.

“When you consider the amount of money at stake in this court case and the deep pockets of those involved, there would be millions invested,” Ms Burton said.
