In an interview unlike any he’s done before, Jimmy Bartel has opened up on his journey from a kid with a “really tough” childhood to an AFL Hall of Famer.

“Life, being really tough and hard … the happy place was sport,” Bartel said on the Yesterday’s Heroes podcast, which he co-hosts with Bruce Eva.

“The ball and the game doesn’t care how rich or poor you are … If you can play, you can play.”
