New research has found that eight million Australians stream at the cost of someone else.

Taylor Blackburn, Personal finance specialist at Finder told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that the streaming system is set up in a way that allows this behaviour of mooching.

“In most streaming services you have four different profiles, where you can stream two or three things at the same time, so in a way it actually encourages that communal sharing,” he told Oly.

“Especially now as cost of living pressures are going up, we are always encouraging people to re-assess all their streaming subscriptions in order to get the best bang for your buck and use what you’re paying for.”

On average Australians spend $39 per month on streaming services.
