Veteran reporter and 6PR sports broadcaster Mark Readings says seeing all the tributes and reaction in recent days to the 20-year anniversary of the Bali bombings has been an emotional roller-coaster.

Readings, who miraculously found himself in between the twin blasts at Paddy’s Bar and the Sari Club while there on holiday with his family, automatically plunged back into his TV reporting role in the aftermath and also spent the one-year and 10-year anniversary of the blasts in Bali.

But he told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast that being at home in Perth rather than Bali during the anniversary this time around brought up a range of different emotions, before he broke down discussing the texts and messages of support he has received in recent days.

“I’m going back tomorrow and that’s for a holiday, and obviously I’ll go pay my respects … but it’s [the media coverage] quite confronting, it’s all sort of hit me in the face the last couple of days… it’s triggered a lot of memories,” Readings told Parker on Breakfast.
