The state government has awarded a $66 million contract to the WA-owned and operated Echo Marine Group for the construction of five new, fully electric ferries.

Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti confirmed to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that the vessels will feature toilets and a 140-person capacity.

“We’re targeting to see our first ferry in 2027 but initially it will start servicing the existing route,” she said.
