$53 million is sitting unused in the Road Trauma Trust Account without being allocated to any road safety projects.

The account was set up to make Western Australian roads safer and is funded by the revenue collected from speed and red-light camera fines.

RAC general manager of external relations Will Golsby told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live the money needs to be spent.

“There’s money available and it’s not being spent and it’s hard to understand why that’s the case,” said Mr Golsby.

“We’re one of the worst states in Australia for road trauma and we consistently are.”
