18C changes a step in right direction: Abetz

Cabinet has reached a compromise on changes to Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act.
Under the proposal, it would still be illegal to humiliate or intimidate someone on the grounds of race but the words ‘insult’ and ‘offend’ would be removed from the Act in a bid to clamp down on frivolous legal claims.
Liberal Senator Eric Abetz says it’s a step in the right direction.
He spoke with Oliver Peterson.
