Young drivers’ fatal risk: Urgent calls for defensive driving training

Young drivers, though a minority among motorists on Australian roads, are over-represented in the nation’s road crash and fatality statistics.

Susannah Guthrie from Drive.com.au told Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons, “This problem is getting worse not better, it is tricky to get your license but it’s possibly not going far enough to target the risk areas where we are seeing young drivers getting into trouble.”

“What we are advocating for at Drive is that defensive driving training should be more accessible, and ideally this kind of thing would be mandatory or subsidised by the government.”

“Obviously, we’re targeting young drivers because they don’t have the years on the road, that a lot of us do,” Ms Guthrie continued.
