The extremely challenging bushfires over the past 24 days have put WA’s firefighting systems into stark perspective at the start of what many are sure will be a very worrying bushfire season.

CEOs and councillors from various semi-regional councils have aired their concern over the infrastructure available to the integral volunteer bush fire brigades, saying they are “glorified water carriers”.

Victoria Plains President Pauline Bantock told Mick and Will on 6PR Breakfast the fire trucks have served their purpose but are in dire need of replacing.

It is a fantastic truck, we do use it, but it’s just not suited in those sort of areas,” Ms Bantock said.
