Families are apparently resorting to eating roadkill and other, more unorthodox animals as the cost-of-living crisis causes the cost of meat to soar.

Possum meat has become a favourite in New Zealand, where it’s legal to sustainably hunt them, a fact that lead Millsy and Karl to ask the question: which animal tastes best?

Perth butcher Vince Garreffa told The Boys on 6PR Breakfast he’s sampled a wide range of exotic meats, and it’s important to maintain adequate food safety if you’re catching your own.

“Back in 1982 when kangaroo became legal, pensioners were buying it for $2 a kilo in pet shops,” Mr Garreffa said.

The story caused 6PR listeners to call in and share stories about their favourite meats.

Fair warning: it’s not for the faint-hearted, and we don’t condone any killing or eating of protected animals, obviously.
