A Metronet contractor who died at work might not be covered for the same level of insurance as other employees.

The man in his 50s was run over by a car while resting between a shift at the new Bayswater train station site yesterday morning.

CFMEU state secretary Mick Buchan told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings any workplace death is tragic.

“When we hear of workplace deaths, it’s just terrible… no worker goes to work not to come home at the end of the day,” Mr Buchan said.

“We are aware of a tragic incident that occurred close to the new Bayswater station project, involving one of our team,” a Metronet spokesperson said.

“The matter is currently under investigation by WA Police, but Metronet can confirm the incident did not occur on the worksite of the New Bayswater Station Project.”
