The potential of a discussion on a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine seems to be more of a reality, as the Federal Government joins the chorus of voices urging an end to violence in the Middle East.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong is pushing for an immediate ceasefire and the release of remaining Israeli hostages.

Wong has been criticised for her stance, amid claims such a move would be seen as a victory by the terrorist group Hamas.

ANU Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies Research Scholar Ian Parmeter told Sean Cowan onĀ 6PR Mornings we are still clearly a long way from anything approaching a solution, but the need for discussion is no less relevant.
