Tall Timber might still face the chop

The Long Lunch

The State Government has shot down a plan that was aimed at creating a tree canopy around Perth.

The plan was to force residents to apply if they wanted to cut down a tree that stood above a certain height.

Nick Cook, the Chairperson for WA Tree Canopy Advocates told Julie-Anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoon’s he’s disappointed the State isn’t on board.

“That’s a big missed opportunity.”

“It was very very broadly supported by the community, we believe it was the West Australian Planning commission’s recommendation that the Minister approve it but at the end of the day Minister Carey has taken it all the way to the state cabinet which we believe has never happened for scheme amendment,” Mr. Cook said.
