New statistics reveal that one in five students are dropping out before completing Year 12, resulting in the lowest retention rates in a decade.

Children are opting to leave school early to join the workforce, particularly with the rise of living costs.

Real Schools CEO Adam Voigt told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings the majority of students dropping out are from regional areas.

“We need to ensure they have the resources to invest in teaching these kids skills,” Mr Voigt said.
