An employee of Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) has died after the ground collapsed at an iron-ore hub in the Pilbara.

The incident happened at their Solomon Hub on Thursday morning.

CEO of FMG Elizabeth Gains said it’s a very sad day and has extended her sympathies to the workers family, friends and colleagues.

Site operations have been temporarily suspended pending a full investigation, safety inspectors from Perth are expected to arrive on Thursday evening.

WA Police are treating the death as non-suspicious and will prepare a report for the coroner.
