The joy brought into a Perth family’s life after adopting a rescue dog has been turned into bitter disappointment after the shelter forcefully took the animal back.

Swan Animal Haven shared their gracious thanks to Katelyn Wilson’s mother after she adopted Oakley – a boxer-mix – on social media, but have removed all mentions to the adoption after they demanded Oakley back.

Ms Wilson told Gary Adshead the shelter had told her they were taking Oakley back because they had discovered he was sleeping outside – despite all images and evidence proving this point.

“I don’t understand why… when we do install the doggy door, and Oakley decided for himself that he wants to go outside, what will they do then?” Ms Wilson said.
