Popular food critic Rob Broadfield will launch a new food website, The Man Who Ate The World, in coming days ahead of a month-long trip to Italy.

The self-proclaimed “eater at large” joined Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings to discuss cooking the perfect piece of meat for a steak sandwich, and the soaring price of dining out across Perth.

“At the end of the day, if you don’t want to spend $300 for a meal for two, and that is getting up there, I think certain places aren’t for you,” he told Bartlett.

  1. Dandelion – Karrinyup Shopping Centre. John Parker and Chase Webber
  2. Will Street – Leederville. Spectacular Thai-based, pan-Asian dishes spanning India, Cantonese and Vietnamese
  3.  Nobu – Perennially popular. Can’t get a table there. Most popular venue at Crown.
  4. Rockpool – Spectacular steaks and brilliant sides (creamed corn with chipotle). Epic wine list.
  5. Topi – Karrinyup Shopping Centre. Best Indian in town from renowned Gurps Bagga.
  6. Phat Lon – Real deal Vietnamese street food from Jenny Lam and her mum in Leederville. BBQ chicken, crackled roast pork with house pickles.
  7. Willi’s Bar – Great easy food at The Royal Hotel, well-cooked from arguably Perth’s hottest culinary team led by Chase Weber.
  8. Casa – Mt Hawthorn. Really, really good bar food and small plates. Great wine selection. Lovely people. Prawn tostadas.
