Just when everyone thought he was down and out, Perth’s Formula One phenom Daniel Ricciardo has made a stunning return to the sport.

Less than a year after losing his full-time seat at McLaren, the eight-time Grand Prix winner has ousted rookie Nyck de Vries from Red Bull’s junior team AlphaTauri.

Formula One expert John Smailes told Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons there’ll be a few celebrations in Perth following the news.

“Daniel was flung unceremoniously from McLaren last year, but now his career has been revitalised,” Mr SMailes said.
