Property owners in the Town of Bassendean might have to ask council permission before cutting or pruning trees in their backyard.

Under a new proposal, home owners with trees on their property over a certain size might need to have a conversation with the council before they can chop them down.

Press PLAY to hear the details of the new proposal

Deputy mayor of the Town of Bassendean, Renee McLennan, told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast they are only proposing there be a conversation.

“Nobody is saying there is a complete ban on removing trees,” Ms McLennan said.

“But what is being proposed is there that be a conversation so trees are only removed when absolutely necessary.”
